Learn to drum like the Illini!

The Illini Drumline will be sponsoring the 7th annual drumline clinic. This clinic is a great chance to improve drumming skills under the direction of current and former members of the Illini Drumline as well as current and former members of prestigious Drum and Bugle Corps. Come join the Marching Illini Drumline for a full-day, hands-on drum camp. Learn from the best at this interactive clinic located on the University of Illinois campus. Snares and Tenors will get group instruction and private lessons on technique, rudiments, practice skills, and all aspects of marching percussion. Illini warmups and cadences will be provided and taught.

  • The clinic is primarily intended for students age 14+ who are ready to work hard and advance quickly an an intense Illini learning experience.
  • Students will need to bring their own drum, drum stand, carrier, and sticks.
  • Participant Fee: $60 includes all instruction, music, and lunch.

This clinic is presented by the Marching Illini Drumline (University Bands, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). All staff and instructors are volunteers, and all proceeds benefit the University of Illinois Foundation's Marching Illini Drumline Scholarship Fund.

Important Dates and Times

When

  • The clinic will be from 9am until 5pm on April 24th, 2010.
  • Lunch will be provided and adult supervision will be continuous.

Where

The event will be held in Champaign at the Harding Band Building.

Schedule

8:00 AM -- Registration.
9:00 AM -- Introduction, meet the staff, Guest Clinician Seminar with Adam Hill.
Morning Instruction -- Work in small groups to learn instrument technique, timing, and basic drumming skills.
Noon -- Lunch is provided. Question and answer period with staff.
Afternoon Instruction -- All groups begin working on more advanced techniques and show 'n' tell pieces.
4:00 PM -- Perform for parents and other students. Preseason exhibition by the Illini Drumline.
5:00 PM -- Summary and dismissal.
